Poker Strategy System How To Calculate Odds

August 17, 2008

This can not be better illustrated than through an example and that is exactly what is going to be done here.

Let’s say you are playing online hold’em and you have a hand of 8, 9 suited in a game with the small blind of $3 and the big blind of $6. Then you call the raise that came from one player and all the other players do that also. There are six players in total in the poker room. So the pot added up to $36 or more from now.

In the flop, the cards you can see are Js , 7h, and 4h.

Now, a difficult decision lies ahead of you. Once you have seen the flop you realize that you have a gutshot to a nuts straight because you are now missing only a 10 from hitting that hand. The idea is to decide whether it is worth it to draw for the nuts or not.

The player in first position bets and the following two players that are stitted before you call. So the pot became somewhere around $45. if you are looking after that gutshot straight then you have to consider the fact that it has 4 outs that are the card you are missing, the 10 in this example. 4 cards out of the total of 47 cards left in the deck. So odds are 4:47. On the river the cards in the deck decrease by one so the odds become 4:46. Simplifying, it turns out that to hit the straight on the turn you have 1:11 chances. The pot odds are in your favor because you now have to call $3 for the amount of $45 accumulated so far.

On the turn, the following cards are placed on the table: 6s, 4h, 7h, Js. This means that you have now the chance to draw to 2 straights and you are hoping for either one of the following cards: a five or a ten. The outs just became 9 for you hand and the odds just improved on your side. Now your odds of hitting the draw are doubled because there are eight outs. And, in addition to that in this case you have the chance of hitting a different hand also, a flush and for that you need any spade card. For the flush there are 9 outs. There is a five of spades and a 10 of spades that are already counted as outs, so they will not be counted again. This basically means that your odds to improve the hand are 9+4:46, meaning 15:46 or about 33% for your draw to hit. This is a pretty good percent and even if the ones situated in front of you bet or raise, you can still get a good pot odd also.

It is crucial for you to learn over time to instantly calculate pot and implied odds both. You have always to calculate you pot odds, based on what is situated now on the table, and then try and think about future bets and recalculate the pod and its odds, this way you get to the true meaning of implied odds.

Limit Poker Strategy

August 16, 2008

Most players think that they need pocket aces, pocket kings, pocket queens, and pocket jacks to make all their money in limit poker. When if fact the hands that I love and make the most money from are suited connectors like QJs or small pairs. Yes I know preflop these hands are dominated by the hands listed above. But, there are a few reasons why the suited connectors and small pairs are big money makers.

Suited connectors with big cards:

1. Its a hand with many possibilities. You have chances of a flush, straight, two pair, trips, top pair with a decent kicker with hands like QJs.

2. Plus its an hand to easily get away from with a flop of rags and no flush opportunities.

3. The premium hands are harder to get away from and well most of the time people play them too aggressive post flop when there is a good chance they are beat.

4. The suited connectors are great multi-way action hands where you EV increases with each play in the pot.

Small pairs:

1. Once again these hands are easy to get away from. Too many players overvalue small pairs but you shouldn’t as a Poker Noise member.

2. Look to hit your trips and be aggressive when you do hit your set.

3. If you miss the flop then its an easy fold.

4. The premium hands have really no room for improvement. Only two cards can improve them and give you a set. The difference is the small pairs you can fold much easier than pocket aces, etc. Aces you will go with to the river as you should but its hard to tell when you are beat.

So when you get mad that you aren’t picking up some premium hands then just remember that suited connectors and small pairs can turn into a profitable session.

Poker Strategy Tip How To Advertise

August 15, 2008

You can use many methods to keep others from telling your moves. Let just think of trying for free cards bluffing, check then raising, semi-bluffing, and slow -play are some of them. Still this is not all because there is a more different and sophisticated way. This type of play is called an advertising play. It basically means that you will play badly, crazy and do all the wrong moves when you are sure everyone can see that. By doing this you will lose hands for nothing and mess with the other players heads, misleading them, but after a while you can play good poker and win big from those exact players. Advertising plays must be done only with persons you are sure you will play again so you can benefit from them. There is no point in advertising a play on a table where you won’t stay and with players that won’t see you again.

There are certain types of hands you should consider advertising first, they have priority because they are easy to advertise and most importantly they will get you a believable play overall. When you engage yourself into an advertising play you must not do it with whatever hand you might have. Choose carefully the hands that you will advertise so that it looks real and you still stand a decent chance on winning the pot. Advertising plays like 3-9 in the first position are just bad moves and won’t help you create that image you are going for. They will just make you lose and show you don’t know how to play poker, and that is not your purpose here. The best way to advertise your play is to play little connectors like 7-8 suited, 5-6 suited and Ace with another card suited or small pairs. Play these hands very aggressively when you get them and want to advertise your play but make sure it gets noticed otherwise it will all be in vain.

For example let’s say you have a hand of 7-8 suited. You are in first position, so normally you would just drop this hand. When you intend to advertise, you will have to bet with this hand, raise and re-raise until you work your way up to the river. Or if you are last, you will re-raise the bets that have been made so far and continue with the aggressive streak of moves from there on. Occasionally you might get caught with your reckless bluffs on the river. You have to be absolutely positive that everyone at the table sees your hand so they can all realize with wonder how badly you played such a hand.

Still, on rare occasions you might get lucky and win the pot. In this case don’t show the hand, it is better this way. The bright side is that you won money you wouldn’t have normally played for and you can begin the advertising “campaign” right after that with the new unexpected funds sitted right beside you.

So, a little advertising and then back to normal so you can play them. Once they saw your way of playing they will make bets and calls on you because they still think you are playing crazy. This is the advantage you now hold on your opponents and this way you will get them bet lots of money on mediocre hands, thinking they are doing the right thing and you are again holding a bad hand.

Poker Strategy A Simple Six Step Guide to Big Profits

August 14, 2008

Poker Strategy - A Simple Six Step Guide to Big Profits
There is no one set strategy that suits everyone in poker. We’re all different, and if everyone could win by playing the same way, then poker would not be such a challenge, or as much fun!
Devising an Individual Poker Strategy for YOU
You need to work out a strategy in poker that is customised to your personality and this involves many things. Are you a tight player or a lose player? What game do you want to focus on - Texas hold’em, Omagh hold’em or another game? What is your bankroll? Do you want to play poker seriously for a living, or as a fun pastime? For big winnings at online poker, you will find below a simple six-point guide to forming your own individual poker strategy.
Poker Strategy #1 - Adopt the Correct Mindset
If you want to be successful in poker, then you must really have the desire to succeed. In fact, this is true not just in poker, but also in ALL areas of life. If you don’t have the desire to succeed from the outset, then you are probably not going to put in the required effort to earn those big winnings.
Poker Strategy #2 - Learn the Basics for Profit
How many players play poker online without knowing the basics of the game? The answer is the majority; don’t be eager to play until you know the basics. You need to learn all you can before you play including: Bluffing, pot odds, slow playing, rules and variations of the game and the game you wish to focus on. Sure, you can’t learn everything from books - you need experience as well, but you don’t want to gain experience without knowing the basics first, it will be more expensive!
Poker Strategy #3 - Have a Money Management Plan
How much money do you have to play poker with and what level of stakes should you play at? You need to decide this, and as rule of thumb, set a bankroll aside that will give you staying power of at least 200 - 300 bets. Don’t make the mistake of playing in high stakes games unless you have the experience and the money.
Poker Strategy #4 - Expand Your Knowledge of the Game
You will never know everything about the game; there is always something new to learn. Try to keep learning all the time, and have an open mind to new poker ideas and strategies. Do some reading at least once a month to improve your strategy.
Poker Strategy #5 - Focus on other Players
Poker is a game of psychology and you need to beat other players mentally. Keep in mind, that as we all know, the best hand does not always win at poker. Pay as much attention to the way your opponents play as your own play.
Poker Strategy #6 - Analysis Yourself
Continually, after each game, reflect on your own play. Don’t just analyse why you won, but why you lost as well. Why did your bluff not work? Why is your slow playing strategy losing you money? Keep thinking about what went wrong, what went right and how you can improve your overall play.
A Poker Strategy for Success
Not everyone can become a great poker player; life is simply not like that. However, we believe ANYONE can become a good poker player, i.e. win more money than they lose, but this is dependent on having an individual strategy for profit that reflects you.

3 Card Poker Strategy

August 11, 2008

When you break out the 52-card deck and deal a hand of 3-card poker, the first strategy you need is a firm understanding of the rules. Rather than competing against other players, you are competing against the dealer. You need a better hand than the dealer (and at least a pair) to win. Each of you is dealt three cards, and the cards are shuffled after each hand. Because there are fewer ways to make a straight with 3 cards than a flush, straights rank higher. Aces are high or low.

You can make two bets: the Ante and the Pair Plus. The Ante is the fee charged to you for playing the hand. The Pair Plus is your bet that you will get a hand with a pair or higher. You don’t have to make both bets, but you do at least have to bet the Ante to stay in the game.

You ante when you put your bet on the game table’s Ante spot. Both you and the dealer are dealt three cards face down. Your next decision? Are these cards good enough for you to bet or should you fold? Fold and lose the ante. Bet and you place your bet that equals the ante in the game table’s Play spot. Win and you get the Ante and the Pair Plus payouts. The dealer has to have a Queen or better to stay in the game. If not, you get payment on their ante only if it pays even money (1 to 1) - and as long as you didn’t fold. Ante Payout

- A straight gets a 1 to 1 payout. - A three of a kind gets a 4 to 1 payout. - A straight flush gets a 5 to 1 payout.

Pair Plus Payout

- A pair gets a 1 to 1 payout. - A flush gets a 4 to 1 payout. - A straight gets a 6 to 1 payout. - A three of a kind gets a 30 to 1 payout. - A straight flush gets a 40 to 1 payout.

Remember these tips to help your strategy:

- If you have a Queen or better, bet the Pair Plus. If not, fold. - A dealer will get a Queen about 66% of the time. - The house has a 3.4% advantage.

Poker Affiliate Marketing Strategy Reciprocal Link Exchanges

August 10, 2008

Link exchanges are an excellent tool that you can use as an online poker affiliate to promote your website, blog, or newsletter. It is a strategy that takes some time to properly implement, but the results will continue paying you for years to come.

There are many ways that you can find link partners. Forums, search engines, and link exchange services are just a few. The benefits of exchanging links are two fold. First, link exchanges will drive traffic to your website from partner sites. This will build a steady stream of traffic that won’t stop, even if search engines decide to cut you off. The second, is search engine traffic. Links count as votes to a search engine. As you build quality links to your website, you’ll notice improvements to your search engine rankings.

When considering a link swap with another site, be sure to look for nofollow tags in the source code or their pages. Nofollow tags will rob you of the benefit that a link would normally provide you and it is a form of cheating.

Also, be sure that you trade links with other quality websites. There is a ton of junk on the net and linking to it will certainly not help your cause in the eyes of the search engines. Make sure that your linking partners aren’t using any shady SEO practices that could get them banned and you’ll be better off for it.

Most importantly, be consistent. A steady flow of new links is one of the keys to ranking highly and generating loads of free traffic from the search engines. Your link building campaign should be seen as a process that you have to maintain regularly in order to enjoy the full benefits from it. Implement an ongoing linking strategy today and I’m certain that you’ll be amazed with the results it brings.

Poker Table Position Strategy

August 9, 2008

When you refer to your position at the table, you should think about the place you have in the poker room relative to the player that is the dealer for that specific hand. If you are the dealer for this hand, you find yourself positioned last to bet, so your position is the best as you can see everyone’s reactions and bets before you make up your mind.

The player that has to bet the small blind is the player situated in the left of the dealer and after the pre-flop betting he or she will be the first to bet from now on.

The player that has to bet the big blind is the player situated in the right of the dealer and after the pre-flop betting he or she will have an early position. This position, as the small blind, is an obliged position, which means they cannot fold in the pre-flop

The player that has the position situated to the left go the big blind has the first action when cards are first dealt. Because the bets are placed in a clockwise motion, the ones that have to bet or decide later are the ones that are in late position and they are the one that have many advantages. They can think and see what everybody else is doing before acting and place bids accordingly. They can even gamble a little if the odds tell them too. They are most likely to lose less and they most certainly are the most confident players at the table.

The early positions presented above must select their hands carefully, if they have clearly a bad hand and they can fold they should do it. They have no privileges when it comes to decide the actions, so it’s better if they are more careful than the late positions. Let’s just say you are the first player to act, meaning the player situated to the left of the big blind. And you have these two cards: a ten and a Jack of different colors. The player right after you raises the bid, and all the other players in the games decide to give up and they fold. And now, you cannot change your bet, now you are being left alone with that player that stands a big chance of actually having a good hand and there is nothing you can do.

But, thinking from a different perspective, if you are the dealer you can clearly see how all they others are betting and also estimate the value of the pot and adjust it if necessary. If a dealer raises after a bet, all the others must act again, and is they betted once it is quite possible to do it again and maybe even again until the dealer is satisfied with the size of the pot.

Poker Strategy Tip Semi Bluffing

August 8, 2008

What is semi-bluffing? Generally, you are semi-bluffing when the cards dealt previously to you are not so great, but the odds are that they can really improve. If you are playing against palyers that have nothing, it should function just as if you were bluffing. But if your opponents have something, then semi-bluffing is a latent, hidden form of attack. Semi-bluffing should be used throuthfully as it is a powerfull tool. If the cards will come to you then it will lead to a great hand. But if they don’t, semi-bluffing can make you lose lots of money, so use it usely.

In texas hold’em semi-bluffing is preferred to bluffing because players usually can tell when you are bluffing. You must use it against lots of players rather than against just a few, the odds are in your favor this way. Also, semi-bluff when you are in late position, maybe on the flop and always against poor, unexpirienced players.

Let’s look at an actual stiation that will be commented upon for a better understanding.

Situation: You have a Ace of hearts and a Ten of hearts.

There are six players and in the pre-flop each of them betted twice. When the flop is dealt, you can see the following cards: Jack of hearts, Queen of Diamond, Eight of hearts.

You are positioned in the middle so you want to try semi-bluffing. You have great chances accually. If any heart card or any king appears you will have a hand. So, you are confronted now with multiple draws. You have to think what would be best in this situation. If you get a heart then you should have a flush, but then again if a king arises you will have a straight. The King of hearts is probably in some one’s hand so don’t think about that. If the queen of heart might appear it can be dangerous, because it could also be used for someone’s full house. So, best solution is to get the King, probably a non-hearts King.

Because either a flush or a straight can makyour hand the winning one, then we must think that you have twelve outs, with the king of hearts that we decided is already dealt probably but counting this card only once even though it fits both categories. Calculating the odds, you stand a chance of 25% to get the card you need. So, you can raise or check here. If let’s say you miss this one, there is a good chance if the players are folding that you still win and you can continue betting.
